It's week 5 of the 52 week challenge! It's going so quickly! But I'm really enjoying this challenge. This week we had to do a newspaper manicure. I've wanted to try this out since I first saw it a couple of months back but never had the time so I'm so glad it came up in the challenge, so here's how I did...
I really loved the whole idea of this weeks mani and was so excited to try it out, however I was rather disappointed :( The print on my nails was so faint you could barely see it unless you got really close to it, which most people don't :P
I used 3 coats of OPI Mermaids Tears, which I have been lemming for a while and finally got my hands on! :) I then dipped my finger in vodka (maybe this is why it didn't work so well? You're supposed to use rubbing alcohol) and covered my nail with a strip of newspaper for about 15-30 seconds depending on how long I could wait :P
This picture is more an accurate representation of the colour of Mermaids Tears, it's a beautiful muted green :)
I'm really glad I got to try out a newspaper mani finally :P But I wanted a very bold print on my nails compared to this :( Have any of you done a successful newspaper mani? If so let me know what you did in the comments, I really want to try this again until I get the results I want :)Also don't forget to enter my 50 and 100 follower giveaways :D
Thanks for reading :)

This turned out nice! I haven't done mine yet, hope it isn't to difficult :(
ReplyDeleteDid you use topcoat before the newspaper? That's what I did and it didn't transfer well... I like it though. Maybe you needed bold print and a lighter base? I dunno. I need that polish though! Nice job.
ReplyDeleteNewspaper print on my left hand appeared much better than on my right hand and I think it was related to the pressure I was able to put on the newspaper. On my right hand, areas where I didn't have constant pressure the newspaper print didn't transfer.
ReplyDeleteFor your nails pictured, the ring and pinky finger have more visible print closer to the base of your nail - was there not constant pressure at the tip?
I want to try this manicure again sometime to see if I can figure out how to do it better.
The more pressure I applied during my transfer, the better I could see the print. I would like to try this mani again too.
ReplyDeleteI'm with the rest of the girls - I had some problems getting a proper transfer, but the more pressure the better transfer. I will certainly try this again :)
ReplyDeleteI've done newsprint manis a couple of times and it is critical that you don't use a topcoat and that your polish is recent, dry but still a tiny bit tacky. I put my paper strips in 70% rubbing alcohol using tweezer and they lay it on my nail and apply firm pressure to the center for about 20 seconds then another 10 seconds or so on the side edges. You can peek under the paper to see how dark it is if you're careful not to shift the paper. You can also try different newspapers because not all of them transfer the same, I know kinda crazy-but true. Hope this helps some.
ReplyDeleteThat helps a lot, I am definitely going to try this again soon, thanks for the advice :)
DeleteNot a problem :) let me know when you do another, I'd love to see it! Oh, and I love Mermaid Tears! I have it but still haven't had a chance to use it.
